Why do
you need to know how your septic system works?
Not
knowing can cost you money!
The
septic system in the average home, with two baths and three
occupants will process over 85,000 gallons of wastewater annually.
A small commitment on your part
will greatly benefit the efficiency of your septic
system. A failed septic system is costly to the
homeowner and the environment. Just an ounce of
prevention is truly worth a pound of cure!

PROBLEM
1
Household cleaners such as ordinary detergents, soaps,
bleach, disinfectants,
and water softeners kill the bacteria necessary for proper
septic tank operation. Bacteria must be present
for septic digestion.
PROBLEM 2
Grease and sludge is the heavy inorganic materials that
sink to the bottom of the tank. This should be pumped
every three to five years. If not pumped out it will
eventually overflow into the soil absorption area This
will clog the system and will need to be replaced. You
will find this is expensive and inconvenient.
Do Not Neglect Your Septic System!
